On Friday, August 22, 2008 many individuals were receiving automated calls on cell phones, the automated caller identified themselves as First United Bank and Trust. The call was instructing individuals to please provide their debit card numbers as well as pin numbers to reactivate their debit cards. This is a phone scam, many calls were coming from different numbers throughout the US. Attempts were made to trace the calls, however, because of such a large number of calls from throughout the US tracing was difficult. Only one number was identified as a business, it was a mortgage company not a bank, it did not provide any debit card services. Local law enforcement as well as bank security officer were notified of the calling throughout many counties in MD.

First United will never send out an automated message regarding renewal or activation of your debit card. Please never provide any information to a unknown caller. Metavante Card Management system was able to shut down a fraudulent transaction that was attempted in Spain due to information provided through the automated messaging system. First United Bank and Trust has security measures in place to assist in reducing loss potential to our customers. Please do not hesitate to give us a call for any suspicious calls or letters you may receive asking for personal information.
